The net:art coordination center was launched by the Austrian National Research and Education Network ACOnet in order to spread the word about performing arts over advanced networks: multi-site performances in real time via high-speed networks and specific low latency technologies. In other words: interactive live streaming of (and between) simultaneous artistic performances at two or more different venues.

As "performing arts over advanced networks" is quite a lengthy expression, we call it net:art.

Together we make our dream come true: to connect artists performing at various locations all around the globe in real time and interactively, to transform physical absence into presence - both on stage and on the World Wide Web. Furthermore, we offer our audiences multiple accesses to art - online and offline.
